Financial Aid Disbursements
Financial Aid Disbursements to Tulane
Funds awarded through the School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine are credited to your Tulane Accounts Receivable student account. The process varies depending on the type of aid. Proper disbursement of all aid requires that you sign and return the Acceptance Form copy of your Financial Aid Notification Letter (or accept your award via the web as allowed).
For: Federal Perkins Loans
For the aforementioned loan program, if you were awarded a Perkins Loan, you must first accept the offer and sign an award letter. After you turn the award letter into our office, you will be sent an e-mail from a company named ACS, which will ask you to electronically sign your Perkins Loan master promissory note on line. Once you successfully complete and e-sign the required Perkins Loan master promissory note, your Perkins Loan funds will credit to Accounts Receivable within a few days. As long as you maintain eligibility, your loan funds will credit according to the established disbursement schedule (usually matches the billing schedule).
| For: |
Federal Stafford Loans (streamlined lender)
Federal Graduate & Professional PLUS Loan (streamlined lender)
Non-Federal Alternative Loans (streamlined lender) |
You must complete a Stafford Master Promissory Note (MPN) and/or a Federal Graduate & Professional PLUS Loan Master Promissory Note (MPN), or an alternative private loan application.
Federal Graduate & Professional PLUS Loans and Non-federal private loan applications must successfully meet your lender’s credit criteria before the TUHSC Office of Financial Aid is requested to “certify” the amount of private loan funds for which you are eligible.
Students applying for their first Federal Stafford loan are required to complete a loan “entrance interview” prior to disbursement. [Note: “Entrance Interviews” are generally conducted as a group session during the first week of the semester.]
Selecting a Tulane streamlined lender (for Stafford, Federal Graduate & Professional PLUS Loan and /or non-federal private loans), assures that your loan funds will be electronically transmitted to Tulane as per the disbursement schedule (usually matches the billing schedule).

Outside Scholarships
Loans from Non-preferred lenders |
Disbursements will be made in the form of a check, made payable to either: you; you and Tulane; or only to Tulane. Scholarships are disbursed as per the disbursement schedule (usually matches the billing schedule). To endorse or receive checks, you will be notified to go to the Financial Services Office (located on the 2nd floor of the Elks Building). Checks are generally deposited into your Tulane Accounts Receivable student account. Disbursements of Funds to Students
Each time that tuition and fees are billed and financial aid is disbursed, the Office of Financial Aid will work with the Accounts Receivable Office to review your Accounts Receivable balance to see if you have excess funds (a credit balance) in your account. If there is a credit balance, we will request that Accounts Receivable issue a refund to you. This refund is what you would use to pay for your living expenses.
To expedite the receipt of your refund, you should sign up for direct deposit through the Accounts Receivable office. If you do not sign up for direct deposit, your refund will be via a paper check. To pick up a check, you would have to go to the Financial Services Office in the Elks Place building; you will need to present a Tulane I. D. card and a driver’s license. If you don’t have a driver’s license, be sure to have another type of picture with you. Refund checks are released after all other requirements have been met.
The first refund is usually within five (5) business days of the start of classes for students who use Tulane streamlined lenders and who have signed up for direct deposit through Tulane Accounts Receivable. If you use a non-preferred lender and/or are not set up for direct deposit, please note that the processing of your refund will take longer - possibly weeks longer..
Please understand that, by law, funds from any of the federal programs listed above can only be credited or released to you during a semester while you are enrolled, in attendance, and are meeting all program requirements.
